Angloville – Poland

Welcome to The Angloville Progamme in Korbielow

Angloville is an English-language immersion program in various locations across Poland. The program aims to allow participants to practice and improve their English language skills by interacting with native English speakers in a real-world context.

The basic premise of Angloville involves bringing together native English-speaking volunteers, often from various English-speaking countries, and Polish participants who want to enhance their English language proficiency. The program typically spans one to two weeks and includes various activities such as group discussions, one-on-one conversations, and other interactive language-learning exercises. The conversations and activities are designed to be educational and enjoyable, allowing participants to engage in meaningful discussions on various topics.

My Experience

My journey with Angloville Korbielow in Poland was a unique and enriching adventure that left me with lasting memories and newfound friendships. It all began as I joined a diverse group of participants at the iconic Barbican of Krakow for our pre-program meeting. The excitement was noticeable as we gathered to embark on a week-long language-learning journey, cultural exchange, and unforgettable experiences.

I met the entire group at the bustling Krakow central station and set off on a picturesque bus journey to Korbielow. The four-hour drive allowed us to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the Polish countryside, its rolling hills and charming landscapes serving as a preview of the days to come.

Hotel & Accommodation

Arriving at our accommodation, Hotel Fero Lux, I was immediately struck by the warm friendship among the participants. As we got to know each other, excitement and curiosity filled the air, setting the stage for the next seven days of teaching English to native Polish speakers.

Schedule

Each day we followed a structured yet exhilarating routine, beginning with a hearty breakfast that energized us for the day ahead. The following mentor meeting was a chance to align our objectives and share our enthusiasm, setting a positive tone for the day’s interactions.

Program

One-on-one conversations were the main focus of the Angloville experience. Engaging in discussions with our Polish counterparts allowed us to learn about their lives, dreams, and perspectives while helping them improve their English skills. These sessions were incredibly rewarding as we exchanged cultural insights and forged connections that transcended language barriers.

We, as volunteers, or “Angloville Ambassadors,” provide conversational practice and help participants refine their language skills through informal and natural interactions. In return, the volunteers receive accommodations, meals, and the chance to experience Polish culture and explore the country during their stay.

The midday Group Activities provided a platform for collaborative learning, fostering a sense of community among participants. These activities ranged from discussions on current events to interactive games that encouraged us to think on our feet, sparking laughter and shared moments.

Meal Time

Lunch was a time to savour delicious Polish cuisine and recharge before diving into the afternoon sessions. The Free Time that followed was an opportunity to explore the picturesque surroundings, allowing us to unwind and reflect on the day’s interactions.

The late afternoon and evening sessions continued to strengthen the bonds we’d formed. From more one-on-one sessions to the lively entertainment hour, every moment was filled with learning, laughter, and unity. The day would wind down with dinner, where we continued to share stories and experiences from our respective cultures.

The evenings were reserved for socializing and unwinding, and the social time allowed us to relax and connect personally, developing friendships that extended beyond the program.

Mid-week, there was an opportunity to participate in an excursion to Zywiec. This day trip allowed participants to explore Poland’s cultural treasures and natural beauty beyond the confines of the language sessions.

Zywiec is a charming town nestled amidst the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains, steeped in history and character. The picturesque streets and traditional architecture transported us to a bygone era, a perfect backdrop for our cultural exploration. The day was a perfect blend of guided activities and free time, allowing us to absorb the town’s charm at our own pace.

Muzeum Miejskie

We visited Muzeum Miejskie, a local municipal museum that offered a unique opportunity to connect with Polish history, art, and heritage on a deeper level, from archaeological artefacts that spoke of ancient civilizations to artistic masterpieces that celebrated the country’s creative genius. The art galleries within the museum included paintings, sculptures, and installations showcasing the creative brilliance of Polish artists across generations.

From here, we explored the Museum of Torture – a unique and thought-provoking experience that offered a glimpse into humanity’s darker history and the complexities of human nature. Stepping into the museum was a sombre reminder of the darker aspects of human history, where cruelty and suffering were once instruments of power and control.
The exhibits within the museum were a chilling representation of the various methods and devices employed throughout history to inflict pain and punishment. Instruments designed for inflicting agony and historical accounts and images painted a grim portrait of the lengths humans had gone to impose their will on others.

Retrospect

As I reflect, this experience reinforced the idea that language is a means of communication and a bridge to understanding, empathy, and reflection. It reminded me that travel and learning are not always about comfort and enjoyment but also about confronting uncomfortable truths and using language to grapple with the complexities of the human experience.

We continued exploring the market square, and because it was a hot day, we enjoyed a lovely lunch outside and treated ourselves to a well-deserved ice cream!

The excursion to Zywiec stands out as a testament to the holistic approach of the Angloville program. It seamlessly blended language learning, cultural immersion, and adventure, leaving us with cherished memories that continue to inspire and enrich our lives.
