Manama by Night

Block 338

Known as Bahrain’s hot dining district in the heart of Manama, Block 338 is a hip neighbourhood in southeast Manama. Famous for international restaurants offering various options ranging from a fancy meal to traditional Bahraini food, rooftop bars, music, art galleries and small boutiques.

Bab al-Bahrain

Meaning “Gateway to Bahrain” – is just the spot for a taste of old Manama. Built by the British in 1945, today the building houses a Souq with many shops selling Arabic perfumes, jewellery, textiles, lamps, carpets and ice cream shops.

Pass through Bab al-Bahrain, the main entrance to the Manama Souq, to inviting narrow lanes covered with sheets shade walkways heaving with people shopping for their daily goods at Joofri’s, the country’s oldest grocery or Al-Shaikh Store, a 70-year-old family-run business.

Souq

A maze of colourful traditional shops where you can find just about anything, including all the Bahraini essentials, from spices, nuts, fabrics, gold and pearls.

Krishna Hindu Temple

A 200-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Shree Krishna is a heritage-listed Hindu temple located in Bahrain’s capital city of Manama since 1817.

It’s a peaceful, relaxing place away from the hustle and bustle of the Souq’s and perfect for the many Hindu expats who live in Bahrain.

In Bahrain, there are about 350,000 Indian nationals living and working, making them the most extensive expat group in the country hence why this Temple is here to cater for this community. As always, please be mindful of being respectfully dressed.

Dinner at Monsoons Thai Restaurant

A unique exotic gem is hidden in the streets of Manama.

Monsoon is known for its delicious Far Eastern Cuisine of Thai, Japanese & Vietnamese fine dining dishes with an exotic ambience to match.

Final Thoughts

Looking back at our time in Bahrain at the end of this weekend, it certainly was eye-opening. We recommend Bahrain for a weekend get-away as you can experience so much in a short space of time.

The culture and history were pleasantly surprising, and the food and people were beautiful.

But, if you want to experience more of an authentic Middle Eastern adventure, you could add some extra days in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
