Birthday Treat in Maldives

Welcome to Baa Atoll

The Maldives is a collection of atolls in the Indian Ocean. It is known for its clear emerald waters, white sandy beaches, luxurious overwater bungalows, and the Maldivian people’s warmth—a destination of unrivalled elegance and mesmerising underwater marine life. We spent four glorious days in Eydhafushi, an island in the Baa Atoll.

My Birthday Treat

The Maldives will steal your breath away! This incredible place was like a dream come true, from an ocean showcasing a turquoise blue sea with amazing marine life to overwater bungalows on your secluded beach. And then being spoilt with a floating breakfasts, takes luxury to a whole new level.

In previous years only the most elite would have visited the Maldives, but today, we see pictures of this paradise flooding our Instagram feeds daily, with every photo making you wonder – could this place be on earth? And now that we have visited, we can certainly call this place Heaven on Earth!

As it was my birthday in February, my partner dropped hints to have ready a small bag with summer clothes and bathing suits. As you can imagine, this was frustrating for me, not knowing where we were going, but I played along with it, as I knew my partner would not disappoint in his choice of destination! He presented me with a red envelope two days before our intended travel, and was I surprised, was I shocked, oh my god, it was a mixture of both!! Reading the itinerary and airline tickets of the destination, it was undoubtedly the best gift any girl could receive!!

And we had the most fantastic time enjoying the luxury of this beautiful destination, relaxing on a hammock beneath the warm sun with stunning views of the turquoise ocean and taking the opportunity to unwind.

Getting to and around the Maldives

By AirThe main airport, Malé International Airport (MLE), connects the island to all popular South-East Asian countries, including Sri Lanka, India, and China. Additionally, there are direct flights from Dubai and chartered flights from Singapore, China, and Europe.

SeaplaneThis is a quick and unforgettable way to get to your resort, providing you with the most breathtaking birds-eye views of the Atolls from above. Most resorts can organise transfers to the resort island jetty, and several flights go from Velana International Airport to the 12 domestic airports.

Boat The best method to navigate the islands is by speedboats or by the traditional Maldivian boat called a ‘Dhoni‘ It is a cheap and leisurely way to travel for those who want to experience life as a local.

Yacht: A luxury yacht charter is a popular alternative to choosing a resort and arranging separate transportation to the various atolls, dive sites and other attractions across the Maldives. There is the independence to travel throughout the islands at times that suit you and your group, which gives you the freedom of dropping anchor and remaining as long as you want at whichever destination.

Hiking, Biking or by Foot

There is the option of hiking or biking tours on the inhabited islands and through the nature parks. In contrast, the untouched islands leave only the opportunity for exploring on foot, leaving little trace of your presence behind.

Things to do

Despite being an idyllic relaxing island, we thought we might get bored after a few days, but we were wrong!! There were endless activities to keep us busy, from snorkelling, diving, watersports, biking, tennis, movie nights, wine tastings, and sunset dolphin cruises, to spa treatments or massages and, of course, my special romantic birthday dinner on a private island. We had so much fun on the islands that I didn’t even have time to read the book I bought for the trip!!! Here are some photos from our four day escape!

Enjoy Sunsets

The Maldives is known for its breathtaking sunsets. Its crystal-clear waters, pristine white sand beaches, and stunning sky colours create a magical experience we will never forget.
As we watched the sun begin to dip below the horizon, the sky transformed from shades of blue and white to pink, orange, and purple hues. The clouds take on a golden glow, and the water reflects the colours of the sky, creating a beautiful mirror effect. This beauty of the sunset filled our souls with a sense of peace and tranquillity, and gratefulness to be in the Maldives.

Birthday Dinner

My birthday dinner on the beach in the Maldives was a dream come true. As the sun set over the crystal-clear waters, my partner and I were escorted to our private table on the powdery white sand. The waves lapping against the shore provided a soothing soundtrack to the evening. Our waiter greeted us with a smile and presented us with the menu for the evening. It was a delightful fusion of Maldivian and international cuisine, focusing on fresh seafood and local produce.
As we sipped on refreshing cocktails, we watched the sky turn shades of pink, orange, and purple. It was a truly magical moment, and I felt grateful to be able to share it with someone I loved. The food was exquisite, with each dish expertly prepared. We enjoyed everything from grilled lobster to seared tuna, accompanied by fragrant rice and vibrant salads. As we savoured our dessert, a decadent chocolate birthday cake decorated with tropical flowers, we watched the stars twinkle above us. It was the perfect end to a perfect evening. My birthday dinner on the beach in the Maldives was an experience I would never forget. The stunning natural beauty, delicious food, and romantic atmosphere made it an unforgettable celebration.

Lazing on a Hammock

With no care in the world, we took the time to enjoy the afternoons swaying in a hammock with the warm ocean breeze and the sun shining down. To hear the waves lapping against the shore in the distance, the smells of salt and coconut, the palm trees swaying gently in the breeze, and the soft sand beneath our toes were truly heavenly. It was like floating on a cloud, with no pressure to do anything but enjoy the moment.
Life is all about this: taking time to slow down, recharge, and appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

Around the Island

We decided to explore the island, which only took half an hour to get around. The incredible beauty was breathtaking, from the colourful coral reefs just offshore to the lush tropical foliage that lined the island’s interior. We walked and played in the water and enjoyed lying on the sand. Walking around the island allowed us to connect with the people who call this place home. So humbling.

Snorkelling

A Tub with a view

A feeling of paradise, sipping champagne and soaking in a bubbling tub. I was living my dream in an overwater bungalow with a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean. I felt utterly relaxed and at peace as I looked at the horizon. At times, I saw the seaplanes land and take off. The sound of the waves gently lapping against the stilts of the bungalow was soothing background music that lulled me into a state of bliss. The tub was the perfect place to soak in the beauty of the Maldives, an experience I would always cherish.

Floating Breakfast

Imagine waking up to a stunning ocean view and being greeted by a floating breakfast. Oh, what a treat! We had seen so many Instagram posts on a floating breakfast that we had to experience it ourselves. It was so special for my birthday. Our butler had arranged for the breakfast to be set up on a floating tray in the infinity pool of our overwater bungalow. Stepping onto the balcony, the stunning turquoise ocean took our breath away. It was so magical, with a colourful and vibrant spread of food, from fresh fruit and pastries to eggs, bacon, and other breakfast favourites.

We sat on the balcony and watched our butler deliver the tray to the water. The gentle sway of the tray in the water created a peaceful and soothing atmosphere, while the sound of the ocean waves lapping against the bungalow was mesmerizing. As we enjoyed the delicious food and sipped on our coffee and fresh juice, we soaked in the beauty of the Maldivian surroundings, feeling the warm, gentle sea breeze.

We felt so grateful for the opportunity to experience such a unique and luxurious activity. The floating breakfast in the Maldives was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that perfectly captured the essence of this idyllic tropical paradise.

Photo Shoot Session

At the Westin Mirandhoo resort staff, there is an opportunity to have professional photo shooting sessions around the island. Being my birthday, this was another treat that I am so grateful to have. I felt like a movie star. The photographer took us on a tour of the resort, showing us all the best spots for photos which were all perfect backdrops for our photos. We highly recommend this to anyone for a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
