Roadtrip Brisbane to Townsville

Consider picking up a relocation car:

Our road trip this week was from Brisbane to Townsville where we hired a rental car from Brisbane that needed to be returned back to Townsville. The rental agreement given was four days which allowed us to drive and see Queensland’s Fraser coastline.

Day 1

Maryborough is known as the ‘Heritage City’ located on the Mary River, and Mary Poppins is also famous here.

Portside Heritage Precinct

With colonial architecture along the riverside, Portside Heritage Precinct is the location where thousands of new settlers arrived in the new colony of Australia in the late 1800s. In 1859, Maryborough became the official Port of Entry with more than 22,000 immigrants entering Australia through the port by 1901.

Mary Poppins

Located on the corner of Kent and Richmond streets, a statue of Mary Poppins stands proudly as recognition of Maryborough’s link with the famous nanny. PL Travers was born Helen Lyndon Goff in Maryborough in 1899.

Gallipoli to Armistice – Anzac Memorial

A memorial that traces the birth of the Anzacs at Gallipoli.

Bamboo Land Nursery

A specialist nursery in bamboo.

Bundaberg is known for Bundaberg Rum, and the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens is home to the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, dedicated to solo long-distance pilot Bert Hinkler. Nearby on the coast is Mon Repos Regional Park, home to sea turtles, and offshore part of the Great Barrier Reef is Lady Elliot Island.
