It is a quaint little town with so much history within the walls, and very easy to walk around. Enjoy a coffee or shop in some of the quaint shops and cafes.
Galle Fort Wall
Galle Fort stands surrounded by a strong wall with existing stronghold bastions, and within the walls, you will find a maze of narrow roads lined with small houses, restaurants, shops, villas, boutique hotels, museums and beautiful churches. Don’t miss the magnificent clock tower located on what was once the guardroom, overlooking the central Moon Bastion and Galle Cricket Stadium.
Lighthouse
The Galle Lighthouse (also known as Pointe de Galle Light) is Sri Lanka’s oldest light station, constructed in 1939.
Located at the Point Utrecht Bastion, the lighthouse towers 87 feet at the cape’s southern end.
Galle International Stadium
Cricket is synonymous with Sri Lanka, as it’s their national sport. Galle International Stadium, situated near Galle Fort, is a place where you can enjoy many great international and domestic fixtures. If you visit the Galle Fort Clock Tower, you will have a fantastic view of the cricket stadium.
Dutch Reformed Church
Also known as Groote Kerk, this historic 18th-century church inside Galle Fort reflects the town’s Dutch colonial heritage, with simple architecture and old gravestones set into the church floor.
Unawatuna Beach
A beautiful crescent-shaped beach just outside Galle, known for its golden sand, calm turquoise waters, and relaxed atmosphere with beachfront cafés and palm-lined views.
