How To Get There
Air: The primary entry point for tourists from North America is Borg el Arab Airport (HBE).
Train: Arriving in Alexandria from Cairo Ramses Station is a fantastic option. A “Turbo” service is preferred because slower trains may not always have air conditioning, which is crucial in Alexandria’s warm to hot Egypt weather.
Car: Rent a car from the airport as the arrival terminals have Budget and Europcar branches. Follow Highway 75 directly into the centre of Alexandria to enter the city. The quickest route if you are coming from Cairo is highway 75, but you can alternatively take the road through Tanta, which has beautiful stretches along the Nile Delta.
Bus: Many bus companies are in service between Cairo and Alexandria, including Super Jet, Golden Arrow, West Delta, and El Gouna. Expect the journey to take three or more hours.
Getting Around Alexandria
Public Transportation: The primary and most affordable means of transportation in Alexandria are trams and buses. A single tram fee charges E£0.50, and the Ramleh Line is a fantastic way to get around the Corniche. Bus rates range from E0.50 to E1.50.
Taxi: In Central Alexandria, taxis are necessary, but visitors should use caution. Due to the lack of meters in Alexandrian taxis, decide on a fare before you leave. Asking drivers to serve as guides for the day (or even the entire week) is a popular option, and most locals are eager to agree on payment. You should budget approximately E£100 each day for the pleasure.
Car: Renting a car is an excellent alternative if you want complete freedom and the chance to visit the coast and the Nile Delta. In Alexandria, you can rent a car from firms like Budget, Hertz, and Europcar at daily rates of about E£120. You should be aware that Egyptian drivers aren’t afraid to use their horns, and you should do the same. Otherwise, as long as you drive safely, everything should be alright.

Walking across these expansive feet of excellent engineering, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, is a must-do activity while you are there. There are numerous viewing places and giant towers on the 400-meter-long bridge. Although it’s incredible to see at night, it can get crowded.
