The best time to visit South Africa is May to September.

During these months, it is less cold, and, especially in September, the wildlife viewing is excellent. Generally, South Africa makes a year-round destination.

 

Climate:

South Africa has sub-tropical and temperate climate conditions with four seasons: Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.

Enjoy warm and sunny days, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 32°C.

January –  is the hottest month in South Africa.

March is the best time to visit with fewer crowds.

June and July are generally the coldest months in Cape Town.

Language: 

The most common first language spoken in South Africans is Zulu, followed by Xhosa and Afrikaans.

Currency: South African Rand (ZAR) 

 

Banks & ATMs: 

The leading bank in South Africa is Standard Bank, followed by FirstRand, and there is no shortage of ATMs.

 

Plugs and Sockets:

There are four associated plug types: C, D, M and N. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins, plug type D is the plug which has three round pins in a triangular pattern, and plug types M and N both have three round pins. South Africa operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.Consider carrying a universal adapter.

The rainbow nation comprises many diverse cultures and religions of Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Tswana, Ndebele, Khoisan, Hindu, Muslim and Afrikaner people, to name a few.

 

Safety: 

South Africa has a high rate of crime, including carjacking, house robberies, rape and murder, but the risk of violent crime to visitors travelling to the main tourist destinations is generally low. At all times, visitors should remain vigilant.
