Puerto Rico

Welcome to Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is an enchanting archipelago in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, approximately 1,000 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. Positioned between the Dominican Republic and the British Virgin Islands, it’s a remarkable U.S. unincorporated territory with a unique political status.

The official languages in Puerto Rico are Spanish and English, with Spanish being the most widely spoken. The capital and largest city is San Juan, known for its historic district, Old San Juan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Old San Juan stands out by its colourful colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, and historic forts.

The country’s rich cultural heritage has influences from its indigenous Taíno roots, Spanish colonization, African heritage, and American impacts. This fusion of cultures is evident in the island’s music, dance, cuisine, and traditions. Puerto Ricans know how to celebrate, and the island is alive with festivals and events throughout the year. Experience the exhilarating rhythms of salsa during the San Sebastián Street Festival in January, or immerse yourself in the vibrant colours and masks of the Vejigante Festival in Ponce. Puerto Rico’s festivities offer a glimpse into the island’s spirited soul, from music and dance to art and cultural exhibitions. Salsa, bomba, plena, and reggaeton are popular music genres in Puerto Rico, and festivals and celebrations are integral to the island’s cultural fabric.

Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, Puerto Rico has it all. A tropical paradise with mesmerizing landscapes, vibrant culture, and a rich history boasting pristine beaches, lush rainforests and captivating colonial cities, this Caribbean gem offers an array of experiences that will leave you spellbound.

How To Get There

By Air: Puerto Rico has several international airports, with the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan being the main gateway. Many major airlines offer direct flights to San Juan from various cities in the United States and other international destinations. There are also smaller regional airports on the island, such as Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla and Mercedita Airport (PSE) in Ponce.

By Sea: Puerto Rico is a popular stop for cruise ships in the Caribbean. San Juan’s Port is one of the busiest cruise ports in the region, welcoming numerous cruise lines.

By Ferry: If you are already in the nearby U.S. Virgin Islands, you can take a ferry to Puerto Rico. Regular ferry services connect St. Thomas, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands to Puerto Rico’s main island.
