Indonesia, officially the Republic of Indonesia, is located in South-East Asia and Melanesia and consists of over 17,000 islands scattered over both sides of the equator!  

The islands are located at a crossroads between two oceans, the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and straddles two continents, Asia and Australia/Oceania.

It is the world’s largest island country and the 14th-largest country by area. The capital is Jakarta, known for congested traffic and high level of pollution but filled with exciting nightlife and vibrant shopping areas.

It is an amazing country rich with temples, fascinating culture, friendly people, incredible wildlife, jungles, beautiful nature with pristine beaches and many active volcanoes.

The country offers endless exploration and diversity from modern to remote areas with great adventures.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT

 

June to September are the months to visit Indonesia when the weather is warm and pleasant.

The rest of the year is sweltering and humid, while the country, especially in the South, sees widespread rain during November and March.

Indonesia’s climate is almost tropical. There are two major seasons in Jakarta: 

Dry Season (May – September) and Wet Season (October to April)

The hottest months are October, May, and September, with average temperatures between 25-34°C.

Jakarta has some very humid months in February and the least humid month in September.

Language: The official language is Indonesian


Currency: Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)


Culture:  Indonesia includes the Far East, South Asia and the Middle East, resulting in cultural practices influenced by religions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, and Islam.

The main religion in Indonesia is 87% Islam while Bali’s religion is predominately Hindu. 

Be mindful of dressing conservatively. Keep your knees and shoulders covered out of respect for the local culture and also know that Indonesia does not have a drinking culture.


Banks & ATMs: 

The four main state-owned banks are:

Bank Mandiri, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Bank Negara Indonesia, and BTPN. You can find ATMs in urban and rural areas.


Plugs and Sockets:

There are two associated plug types, C and F. 

Plug type C is the plug with two round pins, and plug type F is the plug with two round pins, with two earth clips on the side. 

Indonesia operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

Highly recommended to carry a universal adaptor.


Safety: 

Although Indonesia is generally safe to travel to, it is known for its natural disasters, terrorism and petty theft. So be careful and mindful as you travel on the streets during the day and at night.
