Welcome to Bali
Bali, lovingly known as the Island of the Gods and home to thousands of Hindu temples, is a place that truly captures the heart and soul of anyone who visits. When I landed in Bali, I was entranced by its natural beauty, friendly people, and vibrant culture.
Located between Java and Lombok, Bali is a province of Indonesia famous for its breathtaking beaches, verdant jungles, and awe-inspiring rice terraces. But Bali is more than just a pretty place. It has a deep spiritual and cultural heritage that is still very much alive today.
As I travelled around the island, I was struck by how Bali has managed to preserve its traditions while embracing modernity. You can visit ancient temples that have stood for centuries, then head to a trendy beach club to soak up the sun.
But what sets Bali apart is its people. The locals are some of the warmest and friendliest I have ever encountered, and they go out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Bali is a popular destination for all ages. You can experience many different adventures, from yoga, meditation, trekking, surfing, nightlife, culinary experiences and Balinese culture. Some areas of Bali have been influenced by tourism, but if you venture out of the main cities, there are remote areas that maintain their uniquely Balinese beauty and charm. From unending idyllic beaches, captivating spiritual energy, terraced rice fields, and exotic sunsets, there is much to enjoy and experience in this paradise.
In this article, I’ll share some of my favourite things to do and see in Bali, from exploring the island’s hidden waterfalls to sampling the delicious local cuisine. Bali offers a magical experience whether you seek a peaceful retreat or an adventure-packed vacation, making it an ideal escape from the stresses of daily life.
How To Get There
Air: The primary airport serving Bali is Ngurah Rai International Airport, situated in the capital city of Denpasar. It is also commonly referred to as Denpasar International Airport and is well-connected to major cities in Asia, Australia, and Europe, with numerous airlines offering direct flights to Bali. Some major airlines operating flights to Bali include Garuda Indonesia, Emirates, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and AirAsia. You have direct options from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, or Toronto in North America.
Sea: If you’re travelling to Bali from other parts of Indonesia, you can also take a ferry. The most popular routes are from Java to Bali or Lombok to Bali. The ferry ride can take 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the route. However, schedules can be subject to change, and delays are common, so it’s always a good idea to check ahead of time.
