Are you considering a vacation in Dubai? This Middle Eastern city is a fascinating and exotic destination with exciting sights and activities. So, whether you’re looking to soak up some sun on the beach or explore the city’s ancient mosques and markets, Dubai will intrigue you.
Dubai is a city in the UAE and is the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, famous for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture, and lavish hospitality. Although it is best known as a global financial hub and maverick business destination, Dubai has much more to offer visitors – from world-class dining and nightlife to adrenalin-pumping adventure activities and desert safaris.
We found our time in Dubai to be very enjoyable. The city is full of culture and excitement, with warm, welcoming, and friendly people. We experienced being on the top of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and got a fantastic view of the city. We also spent a day at the Dubai Mall, one of the world’s largest malls. Unfortunately, due to its enormity, we got lost a few times and were very tired from all the walking! Overall, we had a wonderful holiday in Dubai and recommend you visit.
Dubai is a stunning city of luxury shopping and ultramodern architecture. It is the capital of the Emirate of Dubai. The iconic 830m-tall tower Burj Khalifa dominates impressive skyline skyscrapers, and below lies the fascinating Dubai Fountain. In the distance are artificial islands like the Atlantis and The Palm, a resort with water and marine-animal parks.
How To Get There
If you’re starting from within the United Arab Emirates – UAE, the easiest way to get to Dubai is by car or bus. For example, a trip to Dubai from Abu Dhabi takes approximately 90 minutes by car. In addition, several bus companies operate between the major cities in the UAE, so you can choose depending on your schedule and budget.
If you’re coming from abroad, consider a few things when planning your trip. First, if you’re flying into Dubai, there are two main airports – Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). Alternatively, there is Sharjah Airport which is very close to Dubai downtown which offer great airfares.
As Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, it is essential to organize your arrival and departure times accordingly. Al Maktoum International Airport, located in the southern part of Dubai, mainly handles cargo flights, but a few passenger airlines also operate out of this airport.
Around Dubai, the city has an extensive public transportation system, including buses, trains, and taxis, so staying in one of the major tourist areas, like Downtown Dubai or Jumeirah Beach, you’ll get by without renting a car. However, renting a car is the way to go if you’re planning to explore more of the city or travel outside Dubai. Just familiarize yourself with the local traffic laws before getting behind the wheel!
Places Of Interest
Dubai Marina
Dubai Marina is an affluent residential neighbourhood famous for its luxurious lifestyle, entertainment options, shopping malls and luxury skyscrapers. It has magnificent views and is renowned for The Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). This area offers al fresco dining, beautiful sandy beaches to relax on, and trendy cafes and pop-up craft markets that line the waterside promenade of Dubai Marina Walk. The Marina walk is an 8 km (5.3 miles) loop with paths on each side. Exclusive yachts adorn the sizeable man-made Marina, where activities range from jet skiing to skydiving. Burj Khalifa
Soaring to a height of 828 metres, Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building. The iconic skyscraper is home to residential apartments, corporate offices, restaurants, hotels, and more. And with its prime location in Downtown Dubai, there are plenty of things to do in Burj Khalifa. Book tickets here.
You can experience incredible views from one of its many observation decks. The ‘At the Top‘ experience is a must-do; you’ll get unbeatable views of Dubai and beyond and even have the chance to step out onto an outdoor deck (if you’re brave enough!).
For something unique, you can go snow skiing at the world’s first indoor ski resort in the Middle East, Ski Dubai, located inside Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates.
Dubai Fountain
The impressive Dubai Fountain is one of the world’s largest and most elaborate fountains. Situated in the centre of Downtown Dubai, it is choreographed to music and features a range of water jets and lights. It’s like the city stops for this fantastic show showcased from miles around.
The fountain is worth a visit, especially at night when it is most spectacular. There are several ways to enjoy the Dubai Fountain – you can view it from Burj Park or The Dubai Mall or take a boat ride on the nearby Dubai Lake. Dubai Mall
Considered one of the world’s largest shopping malls, The Dubai Mall is a popular destination for tourists and locals. There are over 1,200 shops in the mall, a large food court, and a range of entertainment options.
Inside the mall are the Dubai Aquarium (which has over 33,000 marine animals), KidZania (a Child Care Complex), Reel Cinemas (with 22 screens) and SEGA Republic (an indoor theme park). But, of course, there are also plenty of stores to browse and purchase items from – whether you’re looking for high-end designer labels or more affordable brands.
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
A visit to the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is a must for any tourist in town! The aquarium is one of the world’s largest indoor ones, showcasing over 33,000 marine and freshwater species. There are also more than 300 sharks and rays that you can see when you take a walk through the aquarium’s 48-meter-long underwater tunnel. In addition, the underwater zoo is home to freshwater and marine animals from all over the world. You are even allowed to feed some of the animals here! Book tickets here.
The Palm
The Palm Islands is Dubai’s iconic artificial island on the waters of the Arabian Gulf in Dubai, where three artificial islands, Palm Jumeirah, Deira Island and Palm Jebel Ali, stems.
For 360-degree views of the islands shaped like palm trees and amazing views of the Dubai skyline, you can obtain tickets to an observation deck 240m high at Palm Jumeirah.
The View at The Palm, located on level 52 of The Palm Tower, also houses a café and an innovative exhibition showcases the development of the island, interactive aquarium-themed tunnels and a gift shop.

Museum Of The Future
A spectacular futuristic architecture combines UAE’s past and future with advanced technology. Here you will find a museum that combines exhibitions, immersive theatres and attractions.
It is located near Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai and is easily accessible using the Dubai Metro (Emirates Towers Station, Red Line). The link bridge connects the metro station directly to the museum. Alternatively, you can use the Dubai Bus Service network or drive, but parking is limited. Book tickets here.

Dubai Miracle Garden
This beautiful park, Dubai Miracle Garden, is home to over 50 million flowers, making it the most extensive flower garden in the world. Visitors can explore the different gardens, stroll through the maze, or even take a boat ride through the canal. The Garden is open daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and offers free admission. The Dubai Frame
The Dubai Frame is a gigantic golden frame located in Zabeel Park. It offers stunning views of the city from its elevated vantage point. Visitors can walk across the thin bridge that connects the two sides of the frame or take an elevator for an even better view of the top. Dubai Gold Souk
Gold Souk shops are among the most visited places in Dubai, in Deira. It is a traditional market consisting of over 380 retailers, most of whom are jewellery traders selling gold, silver jewellery, gemstones and precious metals. Where To Stay
Some factors to consider when choosing accommodation in Dubai include budget, location, and amenities, as there are many places to stay in Dubai, from luxury hotels to more modest accommodations.
For Luxury end hotels, the Burj al-Arab is often considered one of the best in Dubai. This 5-star hotel in Dubai offers stunning views of the cityscape, plus an impressive array of amenities and services.
Try the Jumeirah Beach Hotel for something more affordable. This 4-star-rated hotel offers great locations and excellent service at a more reasonable price.
For those interested in exploring more of Dubai, staying in Deira at the Ibis Styles Dubai Deira or Novotel Bur Dubai are good options. These areas are located in the city centre and offer easy access to the city’s attractions.
Finally, 3-star hotels in Dubai have plenty of options for those travelling on a budget. The Dream Inn Apartments – West Wharf and Royal Club By RVHR, Palm Jumeirah, offer excellent locations and reasonable rates. Alternatively, there are several hostels scattered throughout the city that offer basic accommodations at very affordable prices.

Since its inception in the early 2000s, Dubai has become one of the most popular places in the Middle East. Dubai is a food lover’s paradise, a thriving modern and traditionally Arabic metropolis. Fine Dining: White Orchid Restaurant – This chic rooftop restaurant offers breathtaking views of downtown Dubai and an inventive menu that features contemporary European cuisine with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Places of Worship
Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple
The most prominent Gurudwara of the Gulf region opened on 17th January 2012 to worship the Guru Granth Sahib. This opulent building was a historic moment for the Sikh community and the beginning of a new relationship between Sikhs and the UAE government.
The architecture incorporates modern and traditional elements inspired by India’s famed Golden Temple, symbolizing the unity of peace, solace and hope. Located at Jebel Ali Village, Guru Nanak Darbar is open to the public, so take the opportunity to admire the temple’s unique architecture up close and contemplate the divine.
Please remember to be respectful towards worshippers and their conservative dress code, where both men and women will have to cover their hair and dress appropriately.
You can reach the Gurdwara via Sheikh Zayed Road, exit 25 or interchange no. 6. Take the first right at Jebel Ali Hospital and then another right turn. If you are driving, be mindful that parking is limited, so try using the Dubai Metro to Energy or Ibn Batuta metro stations and then take bus F44 or taxis to reach the temple.
The Gurdwara opens for worship and ‘darshan’ from 04:30 am and remains open until 08:30 pm. The Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Dubai office is open from 09:00 am to 09:00 pm every day. Langar Seva, or holy prasad, is served during the day, and you can enjoy simple yet tasty vegetarian food.
Hindu Temple Dubai
On 5th October 2022, a Hindu faith house of worship opened its doors to welcome people of all nationalities and religious beliefs. It blends Indian and Arabic architecture while making it a serene place to worship and learn more about the Hindu faith, Indian heritage and customs. Located in Dubai’s Jebel Ali neighbourhood, alongside six Christian churches and a Sikh gurdwara, the stark white temple stands out with marble hand carvings, metal latticework on the facade and tall brass spires.
The Hindu temple is open daily from 6.30 am until 8.30 pm, with an aarti (special prayers) held daily at 7.30 pm. An online booking system to access the temple is available to avoid crowds, so please book your attendance via hindutempledubai.com.
If you are driving, be mindful that parking is limited, so try using the Dubai Metro to Energy or Ibn Batuta metro stations and then take bus F44 or taxis to reach the temple.
